NLP studies the way performance, brilliance and quality is achieved by impressive individuals or organizations, reaching impressive results. There are methods to achieving such results, which NLP studies and which can be taught, in order to get to the same levels of performance. These methods are called models and the process by which these models are applied through neuro-linguist programming is called modelling.
NLP concentrates on studying the inner self and the way that individuals structure their subjective experience, the way each of us thinks about our own values, beliefs and past experiences. The way our internal world is created, managing our emotional states based on the situations we are brought through. Each of us may give a different significance to one experience, so no event has a distinct meaning in itself, that could be applied to everyone. It can therefore be said that NLP studies experience from the inside. Applying NLP's model on exceptional people, achieving exceptional results, have led to the creation of practical tools that are now being used worldwide in business, sales, sports, education and law. However, NLP is not restricted to a set of techniques and patterns. In order to correctly apply these and create positive effects, a particular way of thinking is required, a clever use of curiosity, exploration and sometimes, fun.
Neuro-linguist programming describes some of the way NLP works and the things it relates to:
N (neurology) - NLP studies and works with the mind, how we think and how we store our past experiences, putting them to good use if the need arises
L (linguistic) - The use of language affects us and NLP constructs its models on that, using language and language patterns towards the desired goals
P (programming) - our actions, thoughts and access to our past experiences can be programmed, sequenced in the best way to aid in achieving our goals
NLP consists of a careful study into the structure of our subjective experience. Subjectivity is what makes each of us an individual and, although we can go through similar experiences, the way we perceive events and apply meaning to them influences each of us in a different way.
