Muscle relaxation
People who are in trace move very little. Their movements are usually slower than the usual and seem very fluid. Catalepsy is sometimes observed during hypnotherapy: the muscles are unconsciously balanced by the body and the person can hold the same position of their body for a long period of time without tiring.
Deeper voice
The throat muscles become very relaxed and as a result the voice has a deeper pitch than usual.
Relaxed facial muscles
Lines across the face and forehead will be less pronounced than usual, as the muscles of the face relax during trance.
Slower breathing and pulse
As all the muscles become more relaxed, the pulse and heartbeat of the person in trance become less noticeable. Breathing will also take place at a slower pace.
Different eye expressions
A person who is in trance is focusing on the internal experience, so their eyes are very likely to be unfocused or simply closed.
Slow reflexes
Reflexes such as swallowing and blinking slow down a great deal, so the subject undergoing NLP hypnotherapy will blink and swallow far less than usual. It is also very unlikely that they will show the starde reflex, where the muscles in the neck, shoulders and hands react to a loud noise.
General feeling of comfort
Trance is usually felt like a lazy, relaxed state, for the individual.
There are a number of other mental and physiological phenomena that can be manifested as a result of NLP hypnotherapy:
*Amnesia (forgetting the events that took place during the trance)
*Anaesthesia (ignoring pain and discomfort felt during trance)
*Hallucination (it can be either a positive - seeing something that really isn't there - or negative one - not seeing something that is there)
*Regression (going back to a previous time and behaving or feeling in a more childlike manner)
*Time distortion (experiencing time under the impression that it passes quicker or slower than usual)
Although these reactions can be experienced on a regular basis, in no special circumstances, they are thought to be special hypnotic phenomena and especially observed during such experiences.
